My Week In Breakfasts #2


Hey guys,

I shifted this back one day, so I'm going to be going through what I made each day from Sunday to Thursday of this week, simply because I came back to uni today for a few days to see friends and party, so I have basically no food here and nothing worthy of incorporating into a blog post!!

SUNDAY




As it is now officially summer, I went a bit crazy and bought copious amounts of fruit, including these absolutely delicious strawberries from Waitrose. As usual, I made my porridge with one cup of porridge oats to one and a half cups of semi-skimmed milk; I love this ratio because the porridge turns out not too thick but not too watery. 

I added honey to sweeten it and then chopped up some strawberries and sprinkled some ground almonds as I think it adds a little something extra to the porridge. Green tea, as per!


MONDAY



On Monday I didn't have a very busy day at all so I decided to do a bit of experimenting for breakfast, which I always do when I get a chance! I decided to make pear and fig porridge. I put the milk and porridge oats on the hob and very early on added bits of chopped pear and cut up dried figs. I also added about a teaspoon of cinnamon. Once the porridge was ready, I added honey, sprinkled a bit more cinnamon over it and garnished with some pear, figs and walnuts. Compared to Sunday's breakfast this breakfast was quite autumn / winter inspired, but pear is my absolute favourite fruit to have with porridge and I thought figs and nuts would go well with it.

I had green tea much earlier as I woke up and read my book in bed for a while, so at the dining table I decided to simply go for water with lemon.


TUESDAY



On Tuesday I had to get up early for a doctor's appointment so didn't really have time to make porridge. I settled for this raisin and almond granola by Jordans, which is nice and simple and doesn't have a lot of sugar like many other brands of granola do, or cereals. I added some banana to the granola as well.

I didn't have time to make tea either as obviously it's hot so is not something to drink in a rush; instead I went for a very summery strawberry and frozen mango smoothie. I didn't have any almond milk so used semi-skimmed milk and a bit of water.


WEDNESDAY



On Wednesday I also had a very laid-back day so decided to do some major experimenting at breakfast. I found a recipe on Pinterest for 'paleo French toast', which is basically a concoction of eggs, mashed banana, cinnamon, honey, vanilla extract and nut butter. I firstly whisked the eggs in a bowl and then added the mashed banana. I poured the mixture into a pan and stirred it, gradually adding in the honey, cinnamon and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Three eggs gave me quite a substantial portion but it turned out really well, very yummy indeed. I probably put a bit too much peanut butter on it though! The Meridian peanut butter I used has no added stuff in it so it's very healthy. You can get both the smooth and crunchy versions.

I also had some melon as I always have fruit at breakfast, as you know.


THURSDAY


This looks like a very plain breakfast but it was still delicious! I caught my train back to Guildford this morning so needed something to keep me going for the journey. I made porridge with honey and cinnamon and then made a little fruit salad consisting of melon, banana and pear, with a dash of orange juice.

Hi all,

I have a feeling I wear too much black, but I'm not really thinking about addressing the issue. Black is just...subdued, moody, sophisticated and works every time. You literally cannot go wrong. Anyway, I say I love black, but I don't really fancy dressing like I'm going to a funeral...or as a goth, so I always try to add another colour, hue or pattern into my outfit.

I thought it would be more interesting to go for the pleather look leggings and a cute crop top with frills. The frills on the top, the doughnut clutch bag and the curly hair add a girly vibe whilst the trainers, lipstick and pleather keeps everything quite fierce. I like juxtaposition.

I feel like this is part grunge, part Tumblr inspired and part aspiring Harajuku girl, almost. What do you think?

OOTD: Bricking It

Bonjour,

My cousin arrived in London last night and wanted to go to Brick Lane today for some vintage shopping and curry, so out we strolled in the mild May weather in our midi skirts and sandals. I thought I would actually go for a pop of colour today as I love black way too much (although, actually...is that possible?) But I paired the skirt with my white simple top and sandals and then added gold jewellery for a regal effect. Purple and gold are a dream team. 


I used to wear my hair like this ages ago and wanted to bring the vibe back, haha. It's just quite a cute touch and looks vintage, so I thought it would work well with the outfit. Not much make-up today as I was feeling the fresh-faced look, so a bit of white eyeliner and BB cream did the job pretty much.

Product Reviews - 27/05/15

Felt inspired to do a couple of product reviews today; these are some random products that I have been using lately and are all pretty decent, so keep reading to find out more...

1. Simple Sun-Kissed Moisture Cream


So I bought this moisturiser in time for my holiday to Florida over the Easter holidays and thought it would be a good idea as it has both SPF and tanning agents in it. It can be difficult to get a tan and also tan your face without burning it, so I thought this would be an ideal product. For £4.99, it wasn't too bad a price.

I like it as a moistuiser; it has a very mild smell and keeps my skin feeling soft pretty much all day, plus the SPF is great. However, I found that there was no change whatsoever in the complexion of my face .. the tanning element did not work for me at all, which was kind of the reason why I initally bought it. There are a lot of good moisturisers out there but I specifically chose this one because I thought, hey, why not kill two birds with one stone?

Anyway, it's a good moisturiser but I won't be repurchasing it!

2. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water



As we know, Bioderma is notorious for being the ideal product to remove make-up. Lots of brands have brought out their own versions of cleansing water and I had heard good things about the Garnier one, so decided to pick it up in Tesco when it was on special offer. It normally retails for £4.19, which is quite a good price anyway.

Firstly, I really like the packaging for some reason, haha. As for the product itself, I liked how it felt on my skin - very light in comparison to some make-up removers which are awfully creamy and heavy. This had no smell and got off the majority of make-up. I did have some trouble with my eye make-up, however, and there was still some residue which was annoying to get off, even the next day. When using this water, Garnier says, there is no need to rinse afterwards. I think that's fair enough, but it was a tad oily (I'm just the kind of person that likes to wash my face before bed anyway.)

For the price and the amount you get, I would recommend this product :)

3. Victoria's Secret Fragrance Mist in 'Such a Flirt'


Because summer is practically here, I have been loving this Victoria's Secret mist; this particular scent is really sweet and perfect for the sunny weather. What I love about these mists is that the scent lingers on you and your clothes for a really long time; I have become immune to how I smell but I know my Mum, for example, always comments on how she can smell my perfume; great because there's no need to top it up all the time!

These retail for about £12 - £14 (don't shoot me for not remembering!) but I know there is a deal where you can get 5 for maybe £30 or something similar. They make great presents also.

4. Boots Slanted Tweezers


This is a really random thing to talk about but guys, there's no need to send a ridiculous amount of money on tweezers when you can get a perfectly decent pair at Boots for a mere £1.80! I lost my other tweezers and in despair, headed to the pharmacy to look for some tweezers on the lowest of budgets .. and I wasn't disappointed. To be honest, you just need tweezers to do the job and that's exactly what these do, no more, no less. They are slanted, which I prefer because I feel like there is more of a chance at grabbing those tiny, pesky hairs. Guys, fleeky eyebrows are a must, you know what I'm saying??

My Week in Breakfasts #1


Hey everyone,

As mentioned, I will be incorporating more posts about healthy eating into my blog from now on. I thought breakfast would be a good place to start as I LOVE breakfast. No, really, I'm slightly obsessed with it. I go to sleep at night counting down the hours until the sun rises...and I can jump out of bed and run to the kitchen. Ok, maybe not run, more like hobble but...you get the idea. Breakfast, woo!

So, what does the girl who loves breakfast actually eat for breakfast? In this post I will be showing you what I ate everyday in the morning for the working week just gone...

MONDAY






On Monday I was out pretty much all day so I decided to go for something that would keep me full for a long time - scrambled eggs. Eggs are much better at keeping you full than any cereal, breakfast bar or coffee. There are so many ways to make them as well, which is a truly beautiful thing *sniffs*

I whisked the eggs and added a little bit of semi-skimmed milk as well as pepper to them, then placed the mixture into the saucepan and stirred until they were ready. At the same time, I toasted a pitta bread from the Food Doctor, which contained lots of different seeds and was a little bit more interesting and healthy than having plain toast.

Because I normally have fruit for breakfast, I skipped tea and made a refreshing mango and banana smoothie instead. All I used was a banana, frozen mango chunks and almond milk. One cup of the frozen mango chunks and a cup and a half of the milk was enough for two people, so I saved the rest for another time.


TUESDAY



On Tuesday I had work, so I needed a breakfast that would give me slow-release energy. I eat porridge most days but I always mix up the toppings. On this occasion, I used a cup of oats and one and a half cups of semi-skimmed milk. I placed the milk and oats on the hob and once ready, added honey as a natural sweetener. I then topped the porridge with a banana, a handful of blueberries and some raisins. I always like mixing fresh and dried fruit as well as nuts sometimes, just because variety is the spice of life, y'know?!

I also had some green tea with my breakfast. I usually have green tea every morning, pretty much out of habit, but it's also good for you and is said to have lots of health benefits.


WEDNESDAY



On Wednesday I had a bit more time on my hands than usual, so I made porridge AND a fruit salad. Because of this, I kept the porridge pretty simple. Again, I used oats and semi-skimmed milk, and once it was ready I simply added the honey and also sprinkled some cinnamon over it. Cinnamon is a fantastic spice because it is loaded with anti-oxidants and is very good at helping to prevent many different illnesses and conditions. It also tastes great! Just be careful not to add TOO much, however.

For the fruit salad, I used a banana, two slices of melon and a tangerine. I didn't add any sort of juice to it just because I didn't want to add any extra sugars; the fruit tasted lovely as it was.

This was probably my favourite breakfast!


THURSDAY



Thursday was a bit of a cheat day! A family friend cooked myself and my Dad brunch, however I wanted to have something when I got up, just because I got up quite early. I tried a toasted pitta, again from the Food Doctor, with this amazing peanut butter and chocolate spread from Reese's. I'm absolutely obsessed with Reese's and bought loads of chocolate back from America, haha. This was such a good combinations as the spread melted slightly from the heat of the pitta...guys, it was just delish. Maybe not the healthiest thing ever, but to compensate I had two slices of melon and my usual green tea!


FRIDAY



This morning, I was a bit indecisive so decided to stick to porridge. However, I changed up the ingredients again. I put a cup of oats, a cup and a half of semi-skimmed milk and a tablespoon of smooth peanut butter into a pan and placed that on the hob. Once the oats were bubbling, I added a mashed banana and stirred, making sure the heat was turned down considerably. Once the porridge was ready, I drizzled some honey over it to give it a little bit of sweetness. This was really filling and hearty and it was good to have the fruit actually incorporated into the porridge rather than just sitting on top.

Hello all,

Today my good friend and I took a trip down to Kensington. I don't know if any of y'all British readers have heard of The Goodlife Eatery in Sloane Square but you should defo check it out - some really healthy food there and very popular. It's a little pricey and the smoothies are something like £6, but if you are all about the clean eating then you'd definitely like it. Anyway, back to the outfit...

I got this coat for my birthday and I do love it but being about 5"4, it was a challenge to style without looking like a midget magician! It's a gorgeous colour, which no doubt stands out so I toned it down with some dark wash jeans and a simple black roll-neck crop top, which goes really well with the high-waisted style of the bottoms. The clutch bag went really well with the coat and it is also very big...I think the theme was 'size', haha! Disheveled curly hair and simple make-up was what I was feeling, so a mixture of structured and unruly. A lot of bloggers go for a long, stylish coat and pair it with trainers and I like that look a lot, too, plus the Adidas ZX Flux trainers are the most comfortable shoes in the world.
